Anointed in the Spirit is an engaging Confirmation program that explores the deep meaning of the symbols and rituals of the Sacrament of Confirmation. It places the Rite of Confirmation as the starting point for catechesis for middle or high school students.

The Program Structure
By drawing on themes from the Confirmation liturgy, sessions 1 through 8 prepare the candidates for full participation in the Sacrament. Two additional sessions are designed to support reflection after the
celebration of Confirmation. This catechist guide provides fully designed plans
for all ten sessions.The Anointed in the Spirit program includes the
following:
- Leader guides with tips for leading the sessions, information about the role of the catechist, information about the theology of Confirmation
- a guide for sponsors
- a candidate handbook with eight chapters that correspond to the eight preparation sessions as well as three appendixes that provide the following:
- a collection of prayers
- a summary of Catholic beliefs
- a list of saints and their causes
- a program director manual, which contains helpful guidance on all aspects of leading a Confirmation program
The Subcommittee on the Catechism, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has found the candidate handbook and catechist guide to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Candidate Handbook is an engaging approach that leads to thorough preparation for receiving and living a life anointed in the Spirit. The chapters of this book introduce the candidate to central aspects of the Confirmation liturgy and help them to explore the meaning of the sacrament. The Catechist Guide provides comprehensive support for catechists as they prepare the candidates for participating in, and reflecting on the sacrament. This catechist’s guide offers ten fully-designed 60- to 90-minute sessions. Sessions 1 through 8 prepare the participants to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Sessions 9 and 10 take place after the celebration and help the newly confirmed reflect on the meaning and significance of the celebration. Request a sample of this program
Sponsors serve in a unique role. They have a special opportunity to help candidates recognize God’s loving presence in their lives and to support and encourage them as they prepare for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit they will receive at Confirmation.
