Lesson in a Bag™ Reconciliation is:
Quick: Catechists can come to class 10 minutes before the children, grab their bag and be ready to teach that night. No more fumbling through catechist guides wondering which pieces to cover and hoping to get through it all. No need for catechists to have in-depth training or theological knowledge to succeed in teaching the Lesson in a Bag.
Easy-to-Use: The Catechist Cards™ are easy to follow and allow the catechist to teach the lesson with confidence. All the catechist needs to do is pull out the Catechist Cards, read through them once before the children arrive, then follow them through the class period like following a recipe for cooking. It’s that easy. Each Catechist Card directs the catechist through the easy-to-follow, clear lesson, providing exact words to say to the children, step-by-step. Easy as 1, 2, 3.
Ready-to-Go: Everything the catechist needs to teach is in the bag. These lessons cover all of the important content while allowing the children to have a lot of fun at the same time through interactive engagement. All handouts are included, NO MORE SPENDING TIME MAKING COPIES! No more spending time worrying about keeping track of student books.
Each Lesson in a Bag™ includes the Catechist Cards™ and 20 copies of student handouts.

Lesson 1, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about the first sin and the need for forgiveness. Children will realize that God loves them very much and is always ready to forgive them. They will also learn that Jesus gives them the Sacrament of Reconciliation to bring them back to God when they sin. In this lesson, there will be time to reflect on and share times when we need to forgive and to be forgiven.
Lesson 2, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about the forgiving father to help them understand how much God loves them. Children will learn that God sent his Son to save us from sin and will understand what it means to have contrition for our sins. They will also learn that God forgives sin and promises new life in Jesus. In this lesson there will also be time to appreciate the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a gift of God’s life that makes us new again.
Lesson 3, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about the Ten Commandments. Children will understand that we can learn God’s rules from the Bible, and that Jesus came to show us how to follow God’s rules. They will also understand the difference between mortal and venial sin. In this lesson children will also learn that by keeping God’s commandment of love we keep all Ten Commandments.
Lesson 4, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about John the Baptist and the baptism of Jesus. Children will understand what it means to repent and will learn ways to help their conscience grow. They will have an opportunity to make an examination of conscience and to learn ways the Holy Spirit helps us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Lesson 5, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about the woman who was a sorrowful sinner. Children will understand the connection between the Scripture story and the Sacrament of Penance and will learn how a priest receives the power to forgive sins. They will realize that doing a penance can show they are sorry for hurting someone and is a way of making things fair.
Lesson 6, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about Jesus bringing salvation to Zacchaeus. Children will learn how Jesus saves us from sins that cause shame and guilt, and will discover the peace that we experience when we are given absolution. They will learn how the priest prays the words of absolution and realize that we have to seek and work for peace.
Lesson 7, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about the lost sheep and the good shepherd. Children will understand that Jesus loves us even when we sin and rejoices when we come back to him. They will review the gifts we receive in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and understand that Jesus will be our Shepherd and will never stop loving us.
Lesson 8, Reconciliation introduces children to the Scripture story about Jesus telling his Apostles that he will help them and bring them peace. Children will understand why Jesus keeps calling us to conversion, and they will become familiar with the dismissal from the Sacrament of Penance. They will understand why we are called “Easter people,” and discover ways we share in the new life of Jesus.
