Self-Esteem and Sexual Activity: The Difference Between the Sexes

About this article

Recent research findings indicate a discrepancy between boys and girls.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recently found a major difference between boys with hgh self-esteem and girls with high self-esteem. Boys with a high self-esteem were more likely to have engaged in sexual intercourse than boys with low self-esteem. Conversely, girls with high self-esteem were less likely to have engaged in sexual intercourse than girls with low self-esteem.

The issue of self-esteem has often been an issue for those concerned with girls and their sexual behavior. However these data show that while ministers seek to build up the self-worth of young men, there should be added emphasis on the virtue of chasity as well.

The American Academy of Pediatrics Web site provides information on acquiring results from the entire study.
