"The Rape of the Sabine Woman" Statue by Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, Italy

This white, marble sculpture is by Giambologna (1579-1583) and is based on a legend of early Roman history. The term "rape" does not necessarily mean sexual violation; rather, the founding men of Rome abducted neighboring women to populate their city. It is in the Loggia dei Lanzi in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy.
