Iconographic Faces of the Gospels

The four gospels are represented by icons that speak to the distinct emphasis of each author. Matthew's gospel is symbolized by a winged man (angel); Mark's gospel is symbolized by a lion; Luke's gospel is symbolized by an oxen or bull; and John's gospel is symbolized by the eagle.
