Sacraments and Prayer

The Sacraments and Prayer Catechist's Guide is designed to help young people better understand and more fully participate in the Church's Sacraments and prayer life.

The core activities form 60-minute sessions and have optional session extensions that make it easy to plan longer sessions. Seven of the sessions connect directly to The Catholic Connections Handbook for Middle Schoolers (Saint Mary's Press, 2009) and cover basic teachings about the Sacraments and prayer. Two sessions explore life issues in light of course material—the purpose of life and what to do when God seems far away. The concluding session explores the central place of the Eucharist in Catholic life and suggests ways to involve parents in the session. The guide also includes an optional project that helps the participants to recognize the breadth of the Catholic Church by exploring prayer and Sacrament practices of parishes from around the nation and the world.
