The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Saint of the day

Saint Mechtildis (d.1160)

Saint Mechtildis was the daughter of a count and countess. Her parents built a monastery on their estate in Bavaria and placed Mechtildis there at the age of five. She became a Benedictine nun and was eventually appointed abbess. The bishop of Augsburg gave her the special assignment of leading Edelstetten Abbey. In order to keep her sisters from being heavily influenced by the secular world, Mechtildis prohibited secular guests from entering the cloister. Saint Mechtildis was renowned for her mystical gifts and miracles.

Reflection

Saint Mechtildis took great precautions to protect the innocence and integrity of herself and those under her care. It is sometimes important to avoid influences that we know may have a negative effect on our character and faith. Are there certain activities, people, or interests to which you are exposed that may harm your faith?

Prayer

Dear Jesus, please help me to resist those influences that have the potential to adversely affect my relationship with you.
