Saint Catherine of Bologna (1413-1463)

for March 9

Saint Catherine was born in Bologna, Italy. She had a great love for the arts. Her noble lineage allowed her to be educated at court, where she became interested in painting. After her education, Catherine joined the Poor Clares. She shared her talents with them by illustrating manuscripts, painting miniatures, baking, and painting portraits. Catherine and 15 of her sisters were appointed to found a Poor Clare monastery in Florence. She became abbess of their new community and her sanctity inspired many young women to join the Poor Clares.

Reflection

Saint Catherine had incredible artistic talents. She used these talents to further her understanding of God and to spread the news of his truth and love for all. Saint Catherine reminds us that God can use any and every talent. Do you have any talents that, until now, seemed irrelevant to living the Christian life? Try to think of ways to incorporate your talents into your faith.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, help me to appreciate my talents and please help me to use them for you.
