Saint Colette (1380-1447)

Saint Colette was orphaned at age 17. She was called to serve God through religious life and entered the Third Order Rule, where she was appointed anchoress. As anchoress, Colette was enclosed in a small room where the only opening was a window looking into a church. After four years of solitary prayer and penance as anchoress, Colette joined the Poor Clares. She reinstated the simple Rule of Saint Clare in the monasteries that she founded. She and her sisters were known for their love of poverty and constant fasting. Colette was celebrated for her holiness, ecstasies after receiving Holy Communion, and visions of the Passion of Christ. Saint Colette is the patroness against the death of parents and of Corbie, France.

Reflection
Saint Colette spent four years in extremely secluded prayer. While God calls only a few of us to such prayerful seclusion, it is important to spend some quiet, prayerful time with the Lord each day. Are you making God a priority in your life, and reserving some special time for him to thank him for his many blessings, and to ask for help or guidance?
