Two SMP Textbooks Complete the Catechism Conformity Review

The Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has found the catechetical textbooks Living Justice and Peace Ó 2002 and Written on Our Hearts Ó 2002 to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The 2002 edition of Living Justice and Peace will be available in June 2002, and the 2002 edition of Written on Our Hearts will be available in July 2002. Revised teaching manuals will also be available this summer. Check out our Web catalog descriptions of the new editions for a list of the changes from the earlier editions:

Living Justice and Peace: Catholic Social Teaching in Practice (© 2002), http://www.smp.org/NewDetail.cfm?ProdNum=1137, including an electronic sampler

Written on Our Hearts: The Old Testament Story of God's Love (© 2002), http://www.smp.org/NewDetail.cfm?ProdNum=1138

Saint Mary's Press is committed to publishing catechetical materials that present the Catholic faith with full doctrinal integrity in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Hence, Saint Mary's Press is collaborating with the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, by submitting all appropriate catechetical materials for conformity review.

We are currently working with the Ad Hoc Committee to schedule all of the high school religion textbooks for review. Given the volume of material to be reviewed and the revision schedules required by this process, it is difficult to determine a date by which such reviews will be completed by the Ad Hoc Committee. Keep in touch via our weekly SMP e-news, and you will be the first to hear about future announcements of reviewed materials.

New Entrepreneurial Venture at Saint Mary's Press

Saint Mary's Press recently announced a New Business Group, a team that will extend the mission effectiveness of Saint Mary's Press through partnerships with other organizations--initiating new products, services, and philanthropic ventures. The New Business Group also seeks to forge partnerships with organizations to further mutual aims related to intellectual rights and distribution.

Don Curtin and Steve Nagel, who will direct this group, bring a wealth of experience to the effort. Don formerly served as SMP's marketing director for twenty-nine years, and Steve was SMP's editor in chief for twenty-three years.

The mission of Saint Mary's Press continues to focus on teens with publications for them and by them, religious education curriculums and services for schools and parishes, sacramental preparation programs, and materials and services that help parents nourish their teens' faith life.
