Placing an Order
NOTE: Saint Mary's Press does sell products for teens, but it sells them to adults, who can purchase with a credit card. If you are under 18, you may use the Saint Mary's Press Web catalog only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Ordering on the Web
To order resources from our online catalog, follow these simple steps:
- From our home page, click on the "search" link near the top of the page. Search by title, subject, or author. Or choose one of the links on the left side of the page.
- When you find a resource you are interested in, click on the "add to cart" button, or click on the underlined title of the resource to find a complete description and other related resources. Then click on the "add to cart" button to purchase the resource.
- If you want to purchase more than one copy of the item, change the quantity and click on "update cart."
- If you wish to look at more resources, click on "continue shopping."
- Once you have placed all the resources you want to purchase in your shopping cart, click on "proceed to checkout."
- Fill in all the required fields for billing and shipping information. To protect your information, all ordering is processed on our secure server. Click on "next page."
- Select the payment option you would like to use. Institutions (parishes, dioceses, schools, and so on) may choose the "bill me" or "30 day examination" options. Individual customers must pay by credit card (Visa or MasterCard).
- If you have been given a promotion code for a special offer, please fill in the "promotion code" field.
- If your order is tax exempt, please choose "yes" and fill in the tax exempt number.
- If you have any other comments pertaining to your order, please type them in the "additional comments" box.
- Your order will usually be processed within one working day (Monday through Friday) of receipt. During our late-summer busy season, shipment of orders may be delayed for up to 72 hours.
- When you are finished adding payment information, tax exempt information, and any additional comments, click on "next page."
- If you are placing a rush order, please indicate if you need overnight or 2-day delivery for your order before you click "place my order." You will be charged the actual UPS shipping cost for rush orders. Nothing is shipped out of Saint Mary’s Press on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. If you need to place a rush order, we strongly recommend that you call 800-533-8095 and talk with a customer care associate.
- Review billing, shipping, and payment information and any additional comments. Carefully review your shopping cart to make sure titles and quantities are correct and that no items are duplicated. If any information needs to be corrected, click on the "edit" link and make the necessary changes. If everything on this page is correct, click on the "place my order" button.
- You will receive an e-mail confirming your order. Save the e-mail message with its unique confirmation number. By following the instructions in that e-mail, you can check on the status of your order on the Web. You will also receive an e-mail when your order ships.

Please include a phone number on all faxes so that we may contact you if necessary. The fax machine accepts orders 24 hours a day, but orders will not be processed until regular business hours.

International Orders
Check out our international distributors. Buying SMP products through a distributor in your country could save considerably on shipping costs and delivery time. International orders placed directly with SMP must be prepaid, either by Visa or MasterCard, or by a bank-issued cashier’s check. Payment should be made in U.S. dollars.
Actual shipping costs will be applied to international orders. Please specify the shipping method you prefer in the "additional comments" box on the Web order form. For smaller orders we typically use United States Postal Service (USPS) air or surface mail, or UPS. USPS shipments will be sent insured, and the cost of the insurance will be added to the shipping cost. Larger orders may be shipped by BAX Global. If requested, we will e-mail you the actual shipping cost. The customer will be responsible for any applicable country tax applied to the shipment.

Discounts
Orders that total less than $100.00 do not receive a discount.
Orders that total from $100.00 to $199.99 before shipping will receive a 10% discount.
Orders that total $200.00 or more before shipping will receive a 20% discount.
Gift items do not qualify for discounts. Package deals, combos, and sale items are separate from and may not be combined with other discounts unless otherwise specified.

Shipping
On January 1, 2008, Saint Mary's Press instituted a new shipping schedule. Orders less than $75 that are prepaid by cash or credit card will have
a $6.00 shipping charge. We will use the same shipping schedule for both books and gifts. For all other orders--including orders over $75.01,
billed orders, international orders, and orders from Alaska and Hawaii-- actual shipping will apply.
Actual shipping charges apply to rush orders too.
Most orders ship within 24 hours during normal business hours. During our late-summer busy season, the shipment of orders may be delayed for up to 72 hours.
Most orders ship by United Parcel Service (UPS). Please let us know if you need
your order by a specific date by writing a note in the "additional comments" box on
the Web order page.
Saint Mary's Press Holidays
Please note Saint Mary's Press offices will be closed on the following holidays to let our employees enjoy time with their families. The Saint Mary's Press Web site will still accept orders during these holidays, however packages will not be shipped until the next business day.

The number of days the package will take to reach you depends on how far you live from Winona, Minnesota, and what shipping method you select. You can use this link to UPS to get an idea of shipping times, http://www.ups.com/. On the UPS Web site, select the button "Transit Times," then select "U.S. Ground Maps" and enter 55987, the Saint Mary's Press zip Code. You can also select "World-Wide Delivery Times" for options on rush orders or international orders.
Rush Orders
If you wish to place a rush order, you can indicate overnight or 2-day delivery for your order on the "Review Order" page. The standard $6.00 shipping charge does not apply to expedited orders. You will be billed the actual shipping charge for priority shipping. Nothing is shipped out of Saint Mary's Press on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. If you need to place a rush order, we strongly recommend that you call 800-533-8095 and talk with a customer care associate.
International Orders

Invoices
An invoice will be mailed to the billing address immediately following the shipment of your order. If you receive a Statement of Account and you need an additional copy of an invoice, you can go to www.smp.org/invoices to print a copy or call us 800-533-8095. You will need your customer number and invoice number which can be found on your Statement of Account.

Returning an Order
For All Returns
For full credit, invoice information must accompany the return and include the original invoice number, date of original invoice, and the discount received.
Without invoice information, we will credit customer's account at 50% for returns. No credit will be granted for items not purchased directly from Saint Mary's Press.
Please pack items carefully. Returned items not in saleable condition (as noted below), will be discarded and will not be credited or shipped back to the customer.

Customers are responsible for all shipping charges incurred on returned materials.
A 10% restocking fee will be assessed for distributors and retail customers whose total product returns exceed 15% of gross purchases in the previous calendar year (evaluated and notified on a quarterly basis).
Please examine product upon receipt of order. If product is found to be defective or damaged, please call 800-533-8095 within 30 days of order receipt to receive proper credit.
Print Products
Saint Mary’s Press will accept returns within one year of the invoice date for all in-print titles (items still listed on our Web site or in ourcatalog) that are in salable condition.
We will accept returns on out-of-print titles within six months of the invoice date.
Product returned must be in salable condition. The following are examples of non-saleable condition.
Whether a title is saleable is the sole discretion of Saint Mary's Press.
- autographed, stamped, marked, stickered or have sticker residue
- bent, torn or have cut pages
- dirty, scuffed, faded, damaged or scratched pages or covers
Products such as games, CD's, DVD's, or card decks that are sold in shrink-wrap or otherwise sealed cannot be returned for credit if opened or if seal is broken.
Gift Line Products
Saint Mary's Press will accept returns within 30 days of the invoice date for all gift line items that are in salable condition and in original packaging.
Returned gift items that are not in salable condition (scratched, broken, used, or faded) would not be credited or returned to the customer.
Digital/Audio/Video Products
Saint Mary's Press will accept returns within 90 days of the invoice date for all digital/audio/video items that are unopened and in salable condition.
Returned digital/audio/video items that are not in salable condition (stickered, marked, dented, or opened), will be discarded and will not be credited or returned to the customer.
Electronic Books
Saint Mary's Press e-books are non-returnable and non-refundable
Canceling an Order
We understand that it is sometimes necessary to cancel an order. When canceling your order, please make sure your request is received the same day that the order was placed, before it is shipped, otherwise we are unable to guarantee the cancellation. Please notify us, giving your complete shipping and billing address, and order number if you ordered on our Web site. You may phone us at 800‐533‐8095 to cancel the order.

Frequently Asked Customer Service Questions
Is ordering on your Web site safe?
Yes! To protect your information, all ordering is processed on our secure server. For your convenience, you can choose to have us remember your shipping and billing information, but, for your security, we will not save your credit card information.
Will I be charged sales tax?
Saint Mary's Press is located in Winona, Minnesota. By law, we must charge a state sales tax on all applicable products to customers who are located in Minnesota unless they have a tax exempt number. If you are not a resident of Minnesota, you will not be charged sales tax. If you are from Minnesota and you have a tax exempt number, you will be prompted to enter that number during the checkout process.
Can I get a copy of a publication for examination?
Institutions (parishes, dioceses, schools, and so on) can request examination copies of any Saint Mary's Press publication. You have 30 days to review the materials. If you decide to keep the materials, you will pay the listed price plus shipping. If you choose not to keep them, return the materials, at your expense and in resalable condition, and be under no further obligation.
I am a Catholic high school teacher. Can I request complimentary examination copies of textbooks and teaching manuals?
Complimentary copies of textbooks and teaching manuals are available to high school teachers considering materials for classroom adoption. To receive your free examination copy of student texts and teaching manuals, call 800-533-8095, or you can order an exam copy online. Go to our catalog at http://www.smp.org/FullCatalog.cfm. Add the text or teaching manual to your shopping cart. On the order form, type in the "additional comments" box that you are requesting a complimentary copy to consider for classroom adoption and you will not be charged. Supplemental materials are not available for complimentary examination, however, you may request 30-day examination copies. To review any supplemental materials, add them to your cart and check the "30-day examination" button on the payment options page during check out.
I would like to reprint a section from a book published by Saint Mary's Press. How do I get permission to do this?
See our Permission Requests page or contact our permissions editor at 800-533-8095. We will need to know what materials and pages you want permission to copy, how the reprint will be used, where the reprint will appear, and how many copies will be made.
How do I navigate the site?
Most of the links on our Web site are underlined. You will also notice your mouse changes when you hover over a link. Clicking once on any link will take you to that page. For example, the words at the bottom of this Web page are links for easy access to several SMP Web pages: "Contact Us," "About SMP," "Author Guidelines," "Employment," "E-News," "Free Stuff," and "Privacy Statement."
You may also use the red navigation bar that appears on the left side of the screen to browse our catalog by subject, or the link at the top of the page under the search box to browse our complementary resources.
Why does it take so long for a Web page to fully appear on my computer screen?
This question cannot be answered easily. It depends not only on how fast your data connection is to your local Internet provider, but also on how many people are trying to access the page, how many people are using the Internet in general, and how much content is on that page.

How do I find more information about your authors?
Many of our authors have a brief biography and a photo in our Web catalog. To find more information about an author and to see a list of all the titles by that author, type the author's name in the "Quick Search" box. If you are looking at a description of a book in our catalog, click on the underlined author's name to get more information.
What are Web "samplers" of books?
Many of our titles have electronic samplers that can be viewed with Adobe Reader. You can find these samplers by searching for specific titles or topics and clicking into the product description. If the product has an electronic sampler, you will see a "sampler" link on the right side of the screen, under "more information." When you click the "sampler" link for a specific product, you'll get a note that you need Adobe Reader to view the electronic sampler. If you do not have Adobe Reader, or the newest version of Adobe Reader, you can click on the Adobe icon to download a free copy of the reader for viewing the samplers. If you do not use the newest version of Adobe Reader, the samplers may not display properly on your screen. Even if you are using the newest version, some typefaces may still not display the way they look in the printed book (this is an industry-wide problem, not your computer).
Note that a sampler can take from a few seconds to 30 minutes to download. How long it takes depends on the size of each sampler, the speed of your modem, and how busy your Internet service is. For a large sampler of 1 megabyte (MB), on an average 3-speed modem, estimate 5-10 minutes to download.
Once the sampler has loaded onto your screen, you will see a new toolbar for the Adobe Reader. Usually along the top toolbar, you will see the option to print the sampler. Another helpful tool (sometimes found at the bottom of the window) is the option to increase or decrease the size of the image on the screen and an option to "fit to window," which automatically resizes the image so that it fits in the window on your screen.
