I received the new edition of The Catholic Faith Handbook, and I am blown away!

It has always been one of my favorite books, and I’ve long wanted to use it for adult OCIA. However, the previous editions had “Youth” on the cover, which, for whatever reason, discouraged some adults. This new edition is beautiful, and I’m praying we have more people entering the faith next year so we can put it to good use.

It is perfect for teens everyday life.

It also would be beneficial for OCIA as many of those are still learning and hungry for life application even if they are older. I love the lesson layout. So many of our catechists are volunteers. They need to have the lesson laid out easily for them. If they want they can add or change things but if they need the lesson structure you have it for them.

The reading level is spot-on for late middle school through early high school.

The main points are made succinctly and structured in a way that would be easy to break up and discuss as a group. I like that, even at the very beginning when you're focusing on basic creedal statements, there's still an effort to show that our Church hosts a great diversity of ways to pray and live the faith out in the world. I have found that sometimes material for teens seems to be focused on a narrow set of lifestyles and, and it is all too easy for teens who do not see themselves in those molds to think that this Church is not for them.

It lays the Catholic Faith out in a simple and easy to understand format.

Doesn't bog down with some of the language like the Catechism of the Catholic Church does. I loved that the activities made them think about their faith and are not just to get them out of their seat to do a mindless game.
